The Pelvic Health Skills Lab

Small-group hands-on clinical mentoring for pelvic health physiotherapists

The-Physiotherapy-Clinic-128.jpg

Refine your clinical skills.
Build real confidence.

Held in the beachside suburb of Woonona, Wollongong, the Pelvic Health Skills Lab is a small-group, hands-on learning experience for clinicians who want to move beyond theory and into confident clinical practice.

This is not a lecture.
This is not a course recap.

It is dedicated time to practise the skills you actually want to improve — with guidance, feedback, and repetition in a supported environment.

Who this is for:

This Skills Lab is designed for clinicians who have completed formal training in pelvic health assessment, such as:

• APA Women’s, Men’s and Pelvic Health Physiotherapy pathway
• Postgraduate or Master’s level pelvic health training
• Prior experience with VE and/or DRE

• Prior experience with TPRTUS or Pessary Fitting if this is what they wish to practice

It is ideal for physiotherapists who want to refine technique, improve confidence, and gain more hands-on repetition with clinical skills.

How it works:

Each participant chooses 1–2 specific clinical skills to focus on during the session.

You will spend the majority of the time practising these skills with close guidance, real-time feedback, and peer-supported learning.

Skills may include:

• POP-Q assessment
• GH + Pb and MOS measurement
• Pelvic floor mapping
• Manual release techniques
• Transperineal realtime ultrasound (TPRTUS)

• Transabdominal realtime ultrasound (TPRTUS)
• Perineal massage

• Birth Prep Skills - like teaching how to push/bear down
• Pessary assessment and fitting principles

• EMG biofeedback for EAS strengthening or dyssynergic defecation

Hands on learning (important)

Because this is a practical skills-based session, participants will be expected to take part as volunteers for peer practice.

This is an essential part of the learning experience and allows for realistic clinical application and feedback.

Consent will be discussed and obtained prior to the session to ensure all participants are comfortable and the workshop can run safely and professionally.

Important notes for specific skills:

• Pessaries: If you would like to practise pessary fitting, please bring a volunteer to work with on the day. This is a practical skills session and assumes prior formal training in pessary fitting.

• Transperineal ultrasound (TPRTUS): If you would like to practise ultrasound skills, you are welcome to bring your own ultrasound unit if you wish.
